Morphological Clothes Pins As An Architectural System

Morphological Clothes Pins
Metamerism, Morphology, Architecture, & Thousands Of Little Pieces
During my spring 2011 studio, I initiated an exploration ofthe form (and function) of a standard clothespin. During my investigation ofthe pin’s form, I stripped away the unnecessary details and began playing withthe idea that the clothespins could transform into theoretical structuralelements. The pins ultimately became double-sided clamps of varying lengths. Asmy project progressed I developed a segmented building structure inspired by metamerism using the modified clothespins as my components. Clamping on to three strands of music wire, the subsequentstructural section patterns are informed not only by programmatic needs butalso by the organic limits of the materials used.
